PRINCETON CENTER FOR LYME DISEASE

Lyme disease is caused by a spirochete (bacterium) called Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans by a deer tick bite (also known as Ixodes scapularis). Only 25% of patients with Lyme disease recall a tick bite, so failure to remember a bite does not exclude this illness. Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the US and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that approximately 476,000 people are infected yearly.

MRSA

MRSA is a common bacterial infection of the skin, soft tissues, and respiratory tract. It is caused by a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to multiple common antibiotics, including penicillin; methicillin resistance is a marker for multi-drug resistance. Examples of skin infections include folliculitis, boils, and cellulitis.

HIV

HIV infection is caused by Human Immunodeficiency virus. It occurs world-wide in several countries. There are two known strains. HIV-1 is the strain that occurs commonly in United States of America and other developed countries. HIV-2 is seen in African countries. The routes of transmission and risk factors for both the strains are similar. It is primarily a sexually transmitted disease, either heterosexual or homosexual. Unprotected sexual intercourse with multiple partners or with an infected partner are the major risk factors.

"I had a very pleasant experience with the staff and doctors at Princeton Infectious Disease Associates. To set some context, I had to rush to the ER due to a high resting heart rate that seemed to be trending higher by the day, measured continuously over a couple of weeks. I met the Nurse Practitioner the very 1st day I was admitted. She made sure I was doing okay and helped clarify a bunch of questions I had. Before talking to her, I was extremely stressed given that I just found out how serious my issue was but her demeanor and the way of explanation really helped me calm down. I was correctly diagnosed and treated in the hospital. During my time in the hospital, Dr. Mamidi had me under close observation. I cherished every interaction I had with her. Not only was she extremely knowledgeable but also went above and beyond to make sure I had all the answers for my million questions and that I was genuinely doing good. My health started improving considerably under her treatment and care and soon we were ready to stop my medication. I had fully recovered.
